Some stories begin in a boardroom. Ours began in Southampton, travelled across the world and is now finding its way home. The Burdle family moved from the UK to Australia in 2010 with a dream of building something meaningful. There, they embraced a way of life where the garden became an extension of the home, giving children a space to move, explore, imagine and grow. That idea became the spark behind Funky Monkey. What began as a mission to create a stronger, safer and more adaptable garden playground has grown into a globally trusted brand and a leading name in premium outdoor play.
Now, we’re bringing everything we’ve learned back to where our story began.

The Original Modular Monkey Bar Company

When Funky Monkey began, most garden play equipment followed the same pattern: children used it for a few years, outgrew it and moved on. We wanted to change that. Instead of a fixed frame designed for one stage of childhood, Funky Monkey developed an adjustable, modular system designed to evolve over time. Families could begin with height-adjustable monkey bars, then add swings, cubbies, slides, climbing nets, flying foxes and other accessories as their children grew in confidence and ability. Over time, we discovered Funky Monkey wasn't just inspiring kids - parents were using it for strength training and fitness too, and that insight drove us to engineer every frame with exceptional load ratings to create a playground designed for the whole family.

Intense UV, scorching summers, coastal salt air and years of energetic family play demand equipment that is designed to last - that is exactly what Funky Monkey was built for. Our play equipment is made using premium Australian steel, commercial-inspired engineering and Dulux powder coating applied in-house. As the only monkey bar company to manufacture and powder coat its frames in Australia, we maintain greater control over every stage of production, allowing us to deliver an exceptional standard of quality, durability and safety.Manufacturing in-house is very important to us and is something we are always wanting to explore. Every frame is built for years of climbing, swinging, hanging and growing, not just for one summer in the garden. For our British homecoming, we are not simply recreating the Australian range. We have taken more than a decade of engineering, product development and feedback from real families and used it to create the next evolution of Funky Monkey. Created for British gardens, the Luxe range builds on the strength, adaptability and adventurous spirit that made Funky Monkey a favourite in Australia, while introducing a smarter and more refined design. Fully coloured bars give the frame a seamless, premium finish. Cleaner lines and thoughtful detailing create a more considered aesthetic that complements modern gardens as beautifully as it performs. Most importantly, the playground still remains customisable. Families can choose a setup that suits their children, their space and the way they play, with options to add on what is best for them. As children grow and their interests change, their Funky Monkey can continue to evolve with them.
